PSP COVER STAR
Dear Retro Gamer, Please would you consider putting the PSP on the cover. It’s a fantastic handheld that never gets the love it deserves. There are some amazing games you could lead with, but I think an image of the machine itself is the way to go. If you can include one with an image of Monster Hunter Freedom Unite I’ll be even happier. Many thanks, Jacob Benson
We agree that the PSP is worthy of the cover Jacob, but we’d most likely look at covering Nintendo’s DS first, as it’s the best-selling handheld of all time. We’ll think about it for 2023 when the system will be 19 years old.
STAR LETTER
RINSE, LATHER, REPEAT
Hey Retro Gamer, After the initial excitement of focussing my collecting on more affordable platforms such as the Xbox, I can’t help feeling I’m missing something here. I feel many Xbox games aren’t that different from modern games. There is little reason to play, say Forza Motorsports over Forza Horizon 5 or Black over any of the FPS shooters available today. Most of the Xbox games that I’m excited about are cancelled Dreamcast games, echoes from the golden age of gaming that in my opinion ended with the Dreamcast. I feel mainstream gaming found its footing during the Xbox/PS2 era and since then has repeated itself through each generation with more advanced graphics. With new generations entering the domain of retro, does it ever feel like you’re giving coverage to ‘older versions of modern games’? All the best, Patrik Prusak
Thanks for writing in, Patrik. Xbox games definitely feel out of place mechanically compared to newer releases, but there’s still plenty we think are excellent, including Black. We’ve featured Gears Of War in the latest issue and that’s still worth playing today, despite its age. Have a book for your interesting letter.
