JOHN ROMERO FAMOUSLY SAID THE AMIGA “COULD NOT DO DOOM”. JOHN TSAKIRIS (TSAK/PIXELGLASS) IS PROVING HIM WRONG WITH GRIND
THE HOMEBROWER'S KIT
After last month’s absence due to major surgery, Andrew is back to the grind – with a massive update on an important Amiga FPS that is also coming to other 16-bit formats, more projects from Andy Vaisey (as featured in RG252) and the preview of a new strategy game for the NES. For the reviews, we go on a Game Boy Color adventure, park some traffic, and jump into a PETSCII world. Enjoy.
We originally mentioned John Tsakiris’ involvement with the Dread project in RG230, but after its first public demo, a problem arose. “KK/ Altair’s new job came with a non-compete clause: forcing him to disband the team, continue alone (no external help) and make the project non-profit,” John explains. “Our plan was a commercial game with original assets and a steampunk/Lovecraftian direction. To secure the project, we decided to split it. KK passed me the source code to continue the project as Grind, while he would continue solo on the Dread engine and a possible new, free title.”
