CHANGING THE GAME
Dear Retro Gamer, Hearing of the gigantic takeover of Activision by Microsoft is an undoubted game-changer. This could be the best thing to happen to retro gamers in ages, but it could also be the worst. With Activision having such a vast back catalogue, as well as those from its subsidiaries, will Microsoft bring those classics back to life to maybe go on smartphones etc, or will they just draw a line and concentrate on modern systems? It would be nice if someone from Microsoft was available to answer readers’ worries and give us an idea of what their thinking is. I would sure love to hear the thoughts of you guys.
Kelvin Courtenay
Thanks for getting in touch, Kelvin. We summed up our thoughts on the acquisition in
RG 253. Microsoft does have a decent record when it comes to making older games available, so we’re confident it won’t let iconic IPs rest if there’s money to be made from them.
» [PSP] Kelvin has valid concerns about what Microsoft will do with Activision’s back catalogue. We’re hoping for an update of Freeway.
