Few companies in the embryonic days of gaming showed as much mastery and understanding of licences as Ocean Software. Equally adept at adapting film, TV and arcade licences, it left behind a rich legacy that still manages to impress today. Here are our favourite examples
ROBOCOP
■ For many this is Ocean’s definitive film licence. Featuring the same scattered structure of game ideas that was found in Platoon and would work its way into many of Ocean’s other film licences, it’s an absolute triumph of a game that’s further bolstered by high-end production values and some excellent versions across all home systems. It became a huge success for Ocean, staying in the charts for months.
