PERSONAL STORIES ABOUT OUR SHARED PASSION
Darran has been exploring the PlayStation’s library
As much as I love my N64, it’s a system that doesn’t really hold many surprises for me. It makes sense, as less than 400 games were released for it and due to its popularity most of its best releases have been well documented by gamers.
Sony’s PlayStation on the other hand is a completely different beast and it boasts a library that’s as diverse as it is sizeable. While I owned a PlayStation back in the day, it always played second fiddle to the Saturn and most of my gaming experiences on the system came from playing at the houses of friends and family who were far more into Sony’s first console than I was.
It has only been in the last few years that I’ve begun seriously investigating the console’s enormous library and one thing that’s become obvious to me is that I’d have saved a fortune if I’d paid more attention to it on release. As many of you will know, I’m a big fan of shmups and there’s a large number on the system, many of which are now very expensive. Selling off a large part of my collection some time back allowed me to get some of the more expensive rarities like Harmful Park and Zanac X Zanac. Fortunately, most of the other acclaimed titles I already own on the Saturn.
