When Henry Slade can propel England to glory. He is one of the few England players to have emerged from the past couple of months in credit after an impressively composed debut in the World Cup warm-up against France and a try-scoring performance against Uruguay in the last pool game in Manchester. Okay, he has yet to be put under the intense pressure of a truly competitive Test match but his form for Exeter has been standout for the past two years and his ability to play at ten, 12 and 13 offers England versatility. We may well have seen the future in that Uruguay game, Slade sandwiched between George Ford and Jonathan
Joseph, acting as an extra playmaker with his superb distribution and providing another kicking option. So how does Slade view his flexibility? Is it hard to adapt to the different roles? Simply put: no. “I train in all of them in the week anyway,” he says.
