Jaume Collet-Serra takes us on an epic Disney ride in Jungle Cruise
One of these is the world’s highest-paid film star.
WHEN DIRECTOR JAUME Collet-Serra (The Shallows) first got involved with Jungle Cruise, he had no real attachment to the classic Disney theme park ride that has inspired this summer blockbuster. “Maybe I had been on it many, many years ago when I was a kid,” he shrugs, “but I didn’t have any personal memories of it. It was not special to me in any way.”
Nevertheless it soon was, after he began talking to the Imagineers, the so-called Disney brains trust behind the theme park rides. “They told me about the history – it was one of the original rides at Disneyland designed by Walt Disney himself, where he was the first skipper – and the evolution of it. How it was first intended to be a ride with actual live animals on it.”
