Southern Home  |  September/October 2022
While the southern weather continues to give us hot, sunny days, the moment the clock strikes midnight on the first day of September, we begin to dream of autumn and all the festive splendor that it brings. The bright hues and vibrant palettes of spring and summer begin to give way to warm tones, soft fabrics, and hearty floral arrangements while plans for fall activities and adventures start to fill up our calendars. The excitement of the season also brings us inspiration to spruce up—and perhaps tone down—our interiors. We hope that you’ll journey through each page of this autumnal issue and find elements of design that you’d like to incorporate into your own home. Architect Adam Gerndt brings Texas flair to Alabama for a couple seeking a landing spot for their family while designer Benjamin Johnston layers art with patterns and rich textures for a stunning Houston home. Designer Jolee Fennebresque creates a stylish yet traditional abode overlooking a lush golf course and architect Roger Birle and designer Melanie Elston build a stately Virginia home to maximize views. Our Designer Q&A features Atlanta-based Jackye Lanham and her skillful talent for layering spaces with detailed yet peaceful spaces while our Destinations column shows off the luxurious Primland Resort in the Blueridge Mountains. The Southern Home team wishes you a happy and relaxing fall season!
