Fearless freaks
HTC and LG’s 2018 flagship phones go into battle armed with squeezy sides and desk-rumbling speakers
[Words Andrew Williams]
Let’s get serious. Buying a Samsung or Apple phone makes you a glory-hunter.
We know they sell by the million and you get instant envy from friends still a year off their contract upgrade… but it’s time to show a little love for the underdogs.
That’s right, today mobile giants LG and HTC are the outsiders. This isn’t a pity party, though. Both makers have come up with some bizarre and brilliant features to make the new HTC U12+ and LG G7 ThinQ stand out.
LG brings back the wide-angle camera we saw last year in the G6, and adds a supernova 1000-nit screen and a clever speaker that vibrates the phone’s back. This isn’t just there to get on your nerves – it enlists any object underneath to become part of the sound, turbocharging the bass and overall power.
