You might look at this picture and wonder why a pair of over-ear headphones comes with a charging case for some wireless buds. No, this isn’t some Tardis-esque ‘bigger on the inside’ situation: that little box is actually a Smart Tx transmitter, which can be plugged into any 3.5mm or USB-C source and will use its built-in DAC to enable lossless streaming over Bluetooth 5.3. The touchscreen can be used to control playback and calls, or fiddle with the EQ settings, while eight mics on the cans enable JBL’s real-time adaptive noise-cancelling. You can buy them without the transmitter for £330, but then they’re just… well, headphones.
