MYCELIA
The fun guy of family games
Designer: Daniel Greiner | Publisher: Ravensburger
Board games love an eclectic theme. We’ve made trains fun. Birds fun. A pandemic fun (or it felt like it until we had to live through one). Now we’re having a crack at making fungi fun, though we’re one step ahead given it’s in the name. Mycelia, the deck-building family game therefore, is off to a winning start.
The premise of the game is… well, it’s fine. Neither super cool nor bad. In theory, in Mycelia we’re bringing sacred dewdrops (tiny pretty counters) to the Shrine of Life (a funky construct in the centre of the table), in order to receive the forest goddess’ support (clear our board to win). We’re helped by forest dwellers (mushroom themed cards) that help us move and remove the dewdrops, or to gain leaves (money), to attract more dwellers (buy more cards).
