He was also recording upstairs in Bel Air, laying down two albums, Communication and Understanding, in the space ofa week. “I was in a creative frame of mind,” Womack told NME in 1976. “That was right at the time I met Sly. I’d been divorced and he was hanging free – a little too free as it’s turned out, but it was good for me becauseI needed to release that energy.”
