Band founder and sole constant Jonathan Ford hails from the so-called Chrindie (Christian indie) scene in America as a former member of mathy harcore outfit Roadside Monument and beloved sadcore mainstay Pedro The Lion. The bass-forward, largely instrumental project Unwed Sailor, which he formed in the late ’90s, has inhabited many sonic forms over the years. But their current shape –a rich tapis blending post-punk touchstones with the spirit of DIY indie – might be the best. Truth Or Consequences balances at the precipice of nostalgia without toppling over. At once organic and insistent, romantic and clear-eyed, it commands attention without trying too hard.
