The Vogels bought 17th and early 18th century silver from How of Edinburgh, SJ Phillips in London and Shrubsole in New York. Key to the appeal of this William III miniature coffee pot by the Carey Lane smallworker Edward Hunsdon (London 1699) was its distinctive conical cover. The two known full-sized vessels of this shape, hallmarked 1670 and 1681, are the earliest surviving English coffee or teapots. This one, measuring just 2½in (6cm) high, had been acquired from Shrubsole in 1986. It took $4800 (£3700).
