Grand Tour alabaster model of the Pisa piazza – £4500 at Mellors & Kirk.
Collectables untouched by Byronmania but selling well at the Harold Ward sale included a 19th century ‘Grand Tour’ Italian alabaster model of the Piazza del Duomo, Pisa, and a gold-mounted malacca walking cane engraved to the pommel with the 1816-37 royal arms.
The four models comprising the 17in x 23in (43 x 59cm) glass-cased piazza, estimated at £200-300, were more of a genuine surprise.
