RUSSIAN Olympic silver medallist Tatyana Firova says she thinks athletes should be allowed to take performance-enhancing substances.
The 400m runner, who won relay medals at each of the last three summer Olympic Games, recently failed a drugs test.
Firova said that she felt it was unfair for athletes to be banned from taking drugs as “normal” people are allowed to do so without punishment.
“A normal person can take banned substances if they want to,” Firova said in an interview with Sky News. “So why can’t athletes take them as well? How else can we achieve high results?”
