IN last year’s race in the Birmingham Diamond League, Adam Gemili, although going under 10 seconds in the 100m for the first time, sustained an injury that kept him out for the season.
He was happy, therefore, to “finish in one piece” and was not overly concerned with his sixth place with 10.29 – a long way short of his 9.97 12 months ago.
Gemili (below), the only Brit in history to have gone under 10 and 20 seconds respectively for the sprints, said: “It’s not the Olympic final so I didn’t want to push too hard to get myself back into a race, which I did last year and ended up being out for the season.
“It’s something to build on. I think I’m in a different place to a lot of these guys – I’m still in a heavy block of training.
