Buy a refurbished monitor
Don’t pay for a new screen when you can get a top-quality model for half the price. Robert Irvine explains why and where you should buy a refurbished monitor
If you’re looking to upgrade your current monitor or create a dual-screen setup, you don’t need to spend hundreds of pounds on a new model. Buying a refurbished monitor has many advantages and there are fewer risks compared with other devices.
LCD monitors have no moving parts or flash memory, which means they don’t wear out and don’t have limited lifespans like hard drives or SSDs. The only important thing is that their screen still works properly. Here we explain why you should buy refurbished, what to look for and where to get the best deals.
WHY BUY A REFURBISHED MONITOR?
The biggest advantage to buying a refurbished monitor is that you’ll save a lot of money on the price of a new one – generally between 30 and 50 per cent. This means you can get one with a larger screen and better specifications than you’d typically be able to afford – or you might want to maximise your discount by choosing a basic model.
Buying refurbished helps the environment, by giving a second life to an existing monitor and reducing electronic waste. Display technology changes more slowly than most hardware, so even a monitor that originally went on sale several years ago won’t be outdated. It’s also a cost-effective way to add a second screen to your PC setup.
