What you need: Windows 10 or 11, macOS or Linux
With Microsoft’s new Outlook app for Windows proving controversial, now is the perfect time to switch to Thunderbird. Mozilla’s email client is fast, simple to use and free, and lets you easily manage multiple accounts. The latest version fixes dozens of bugs and makes several improvements to the interface. You can now manually sort folders in the Folders pane, so more important ones appear first. Simply drag and drop a folder into the desired position. Another new option lets you choose how many rows of a message are displayed in your inbox in Cards view (which shows responses in email discussion threads). Go to Settings, then Appearance and select either two or three rows. Best of all, when Thunderbird shows a new-message notification, you can now delete an unimportant email or mark it as read without opening it (see screenshot).
