International Women’s Day (8 March) is some way away; but perhaps this distance from the only day of the year in which women’s role in society is actively celebrated and reflected on is what inspired us to compile an all-female issue. Inside, you’ll find interviews and features on Sharon Eyal, Eszter Salamon, Ingrid Lorentzen, Gabriela Carrizo and Gloria Dorliguzzo, multi-faceted artists whose creations, artistic directorships and multidisciplinary visions have shaped a distinctive contemporary scene.
There’s also a significant milestone that inspired this special issue: the one hundredth anniversary of the Martha Graham Dance Company, the first American dance company.
