Dolls House World  |  Issue 359
Bobbie Johnson tells us this month that “creating miniatures calms my restless mind and allows me to be in a peaceful state of enjoyment.”
Well I know we can all lose ourselves in minis but, as anyone who has ever tried to fix a little light that refuses to flicker or made Fimo courgettes that look more like an extra from Alien than a vegetable (me), this wonderful hobby does not always engender tranquility.
But we’re pleased that Bobbie, who makes lovely antique-inspired pieces did confess that her work room was “in constant chaos with fabrics and supplies in disarray until I am ready to start the next project.” There’s hope for us all.
Gina Zetts tells us about a project which involved her researching obscure feminine history around botany in the Victorian era.
Gina, who says she loves “how intimate miniatures are both physically and emotionally” has created a wonderful folly as a result which you can admire in the centre pages.
Much to admire too in Suzanne Crowley’s beautiful kitchen, which adorns our cover. It features the work of artists from all over the world, although some minis nearly didn’t make it when a customs officer thought Suzanne was importing a huge container of fruit and rare woods.
Jane Crosland returns to show how railway accessories can be successfully incorporated into our scenes, while Sandra peers inside an old briefcase to see what can be achieved in small spaces.
Our experts show you how to make everything from stunning birdcages to ruffled pillows. Go on, have a go. I’m sure your courgettes will be a lot better than mine.
