Dolls House World  |  Issue 363
The sun was shining a lot when we put this issue together, which seemed quite fitting as there are a lot of summer ideas inside.
Julieanne Milnes leads the way on our front cover with her Bluestone Cottage. A few years ago she began messing around trying to make a house from an old cardboard box.
If I tried to make a house from an old cardboard box I know pretty much how it would turn out — looking like something waiting for the recycling bin. But Julieanne has talent in abundance and her early versions showed great promise.
She liked the idea that they were lightweight and could be moved around easily. Bluestone Cottage is one of her recent creations, with inviting shabby chic rooms, and she chats with Sandra Harding about the techniques she used.
Julieanne used egg cartons a lot and that’s an idea Cindy Vianna also used on the brickwork in her Victorian farmhouse. “They took weeks,” she tells us, pointing out that what you need most in this hobby is patience.
Cindy took a break from the hobby to raise three children. But she’s back more passionate then ever, and we’re sure you’ll love her farmhouse that adorns the centre pages.
I hope the weather is good where you are, but even if it’s not there’s no better time to start work on that summer retreat, country cottage or artist’s attic. The sun will always be shining on your miniature world.
