iDrum magazine: Never miss a beat  |  105 August 2012
In issue 105 of Drummer, we are honoured to have one of the funkiest, groove-fuelled drummers around, Steve Ferrone, gracing our front cover. Steve has had a long and incredibly fruitful career playing with some of the biggest names in music, including The Average White Band, Eric Clapton, Chaka Khan and Tom Petty, and this issue he tells us how he came to develop his massively deep pocket which has led to his many musical endeavours. We are also joined by Drummer favourite Alex Reeves, who gives us an insight on how to build and sustain a busy work schedule, and as Alex is such an in demand player, it’s definitely advice worth heeding! Johnny Rabb joins us to inform about his recent switch from primarily being known as an educator and clinician to becoming a full-time member of the superb Collective Soul, as well as giving us the lowdown on his musical roots, work ethos and much more besides. You can read excerpts from Johnny’s interview in the issue as well as checking out the whole interview on our website: www.drummermagazine.co.uk as there was too much information to fit in one place!
Elsewhere this issue, we have a special report from this years Download festival: the rain, mud, cold and windy weather certainly didn’t put off our intrepid reporters who rocked-out for the weekend with some of music’s heaviest hitters. We also have a very special competition this month for one of our lucky readers to win a very unique prize – turn to page 14 for more details! We meet London Bass-supremo Jay Darwish who gives us his perspective on working with a drummer, as well as Oxford-based drum teacher Gary Marshall who explains why drumming should always be fun. We also have a slight new look for our regular Audioscreen feature this month, as well as our usual mix of news, reviews, tuition and features.
