Old Glory Magazine  |  Aug-22
August issue of Old Glory correspondent David Vaughan meets up with his good friend Jonathan Vartan to talk about steam roller ownership of over 40 years, all with one engine. He has been through so much with this engine, including major boiler work that needed his own bare hands to get it right. Thanks to the support and enthusiasm of the ‘two Ollies’ Jonathan has just what he needs to keep Hermes on the road.
The preservationists of steam are getting younger and younger, which Old Glory is pleased to see. The Jessett Trust under 23s took their 1913 Aveling & Porter No. 7899 showman’s tractor Southern Queen all the way on the correct HCVS route to Brighton and Dave Vaughan charts their progress. Smaller in size were the many miniatures that visited the Echills Wood Railway near Birmingham in May and David Reed went and took in the occasion.
