In our special 400th issue, we begin with a thank you to the loyal readers of Woodturning magazine. We then announce the Mark Baker Woodturner of the Year Award, a competition in honour of the former Editor of Woodturning, with £4,000 worth of prizes to be won.

Our Projects in this issue feature collaborations between noted woodturners. Richard Findley and Colwin Way make an automaton of a pole lathe turner; Mark Palma turns a platter which Janice Levi embellishes with a Zentangle-inspired design; Pat Carroll turns a sycamore vessel for Elizabeth Weber to carve and paint; Emiliano Achaval and Kurt Hertzog combine their skills to make a beaded platter; and Andrew Potocnik and Tracey Malady collaborate on a wall clock decorated with straw marquetry. Plus, Andy Coates makes a bowl with a flat bark lid; and Sue Harker turns a cutout vase.

In our Techniques section, Kurt Hertzog answers readers’ questions; and Les Symonds completes his series on reverse turning.

In Features, we meet Kendall Cahan, for whom woodturning is a spiritual journey; and Pete Moncrieff-Jury considers how turning has changed since Woodturning magazine’s first issue was published in 1990.

We also have a sneak peek at our next issue, plus news from the Worshipful Company of Turners.

All this and more in Woodturning 400!

Woodturning

Excellent magazine. I like how they have the plans and instructions for different projects.
Great how to and helpful ideas.
Only thing I would like to see is to have the dimensions in inches besides the millimeters for us nonmetric users... ??
