The Veganism Impact Report (veganismimpactreport.com) has released information on what would happen if the UK’s current meat-eating population went vegan, focusing on health, economy and emissions. Statistics show that there would be 8,800 fewer cancer cases each year, as well as 129,443 fewer deaths due to heart and circulatory disease. As it stands, an estimated 152,405 people in the UK died of heart disease in 2017, but, if the UK went vegan, this would fall to 22,861 deaths.
The study also looked at the global population and veganism’s efects on the environment. If all of the world’s meateaters turned plant-based, there would be a notable reduction in the world’s land surface used by livestock — 1.5 billion hectares of land (of the world’s total 13.4 billion hectares) that is currently used for livestock would become available.
