1 Pack the essentials
So many times we get caught short when heading for a picnic and end up improvising, using a frisbee for a plate or frantically Googling to see how to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew. Some essentials to double check you have before setting of are a blanket, a chopping board (also doubles up as somewhere flat and sturdy to balance your drinks) and sharp knife, cutlery, bottle opener, plastic reusable cups and plates and some fabric napkins for the inevitable spillage.
2 Plan games
No picnic is complete without some fun games to play. If there is a big group of you, nothing beats a good old fashioned game of rounders — and everyone can get involved. If you don’t have a bat and ball, play it with a football instead. When you want to keep kids entertained but in the shade, set up a game of Jenga under tree cover. If it’s a more relaxed vibe with just a couple of you, take a pack of cards to while away a sunny aternoon.
