Several exciting new games and figure releases come under the spotlight in this month’s issue. Chain of Command 2 is the eagerly anticipated second edition of the TooFatLardies World War Two rules, and we had the pleasure of hosting Lardie Rich at WiHQ to play through a game, with a focus on second edition mechanics. Victrix’s first foray into 28mm World War Two plastics also caused quite a buzz in the office. After constructing the figures in the pack, James couldn’t contain his excitement for the Late War German Infantry and Heavy Weapons set within just one page in Observation Post, so his ‘review’ has expanded into a full Figure Spotlight article. Similarly, we decided The Chicago Way box set Flat Caps and Truncheons by Great Escape Games was worthy of closer inspection, and this now constitutes a Rules (and figure) Showcase on page 86.

Elsewhere in the magazine, our attention turns to this month’s theme of Mountains and Moor, in which we look at mountain basing, the great Roman victory at Mons Graupius, the disastrous retreat of the British army from Kabul in 1842, and gothic horror on the North York Moors.

With all of that going on, we couldn’t quite fit the second part of Bob Giglio’s 7TV adventure, The Shifting Sands, into this issue. It will feature in a future issue of Wargames Illustrated.
