The Hyundai i10 and Toyota Aygo X offer two very different takes on economical small car motoring, but which is the best used buy?

HYUNDAI I10
1 The i10 has a bigger glovebox than the Aygo X, plus there’s a handy light for added convenience
2 Like the Aygo X’s, the i10’s steering wheel can only be adjusted up and down. You can’t move it in and out for reach
3 Door bins are bigger than those in the Aygo X, plus there are more useful storage areas in the centre console

1 Acres of shiny plastic and painted metal betray the Aygo X’s budget origins; steering wheel feels nice, though
2 Extra height gives the Aygo X a higher driving position than the i10, but you certainly won’t mistake it for an SUV’s
3 There are only two directional air vents on the Aygo X’s dash – one at each corner. That’s not ideal on hot days

HYUNDAI i10
BEST FOR COMFORT
The i10 is more adept at soaking up urban potholes, plus it’s smoother and quieter at motorway speeds
TOYOTA AYGO X
BEST TO DRIVE
It’s short on power, but sharper steering and better body control make the Aygo X more enjoyable to drive
WHILE THE SUV market flourishes, small petrol-powered hatchbacks are thin on the ground these days. Those that remain on sale, though, are impressively diverse, as is demonstrated by the current generation of the Hyundai i10 and outgoing Toyota Aygo X.
