Hello!
ISSUE 170 || February 2024
Would you ever run naked? And you know what I mean here – of course, I’m not talking about going Full Monty at your next parkrun (although, if that’s your bag, and no one’s going to bat an eyelid, we are fully with you on that): I’m talking about running without a watch.
Not just a watch, though – what about running without Strava, or any other kind of app that we might have on the go?
I feel conflicted about it. On the one hand, I feel completely tethered to my watch and my running apps, and I love being able to check my route, my pace, my time, and whether I’ve hit whatever target I’m aiming for. But on the other hand, having access to these tools 24/7 means I can often beat myself up for not performing as well as I had on a previous run, or for not making the pace I wanted to, or not boosting my V02 max, or increasing (or decreasing) whatever other numbers I pay so much attention to. And that doesn’t always feel that great.
