Romanian novelist EO Chirovici tells Chris High about the challenges of writing in a second language for his first novel in English
Chris High
If at first you don’t succeed, etc, etc, etc. This could be the maxim of just about any successful writer, but in the case of Romanian EO Chirovici, whose second novel (and first in English), The Book of Mirrors (Century) is now available, it couldn’t be more apposite.
Having been rejected in the US, Eugene took the novel to a small UK publisher who advised him to try just one more time to get it to a wider readership. He did, and The Book of Mirrors was immediately signed by a literary agent, sparking a UK auction and world-wide rights sales.
