The most common single piece of advice given to aspiring writers is to read a lot; probably the second is to write as much and as often as you can. Sound common sense, both of them. Extensive reading, with exposure to different genres and different styles and techniques, will enable you to see what kind of writing strikes a chord with you – and how successful authors do it. With any luck that will stimulate your own creativity and help you to develop your own individual way of writing. Writing is one of the few activities where quantity almost inevitably means quality. The more you write, the better you’ll get. It’s guaranteed.
