TRAVEL WRITING
KNOW-HOW
Any travel piece about which you have a clear idea or aacommission to write needs some planning. This involves structure and content, but here I want to dwell on the planning that is about the actual travel.
You decide to go somewhere, a city say. Maybe you link your visit to seeing a specific thing or experiencing a specific event. You must decide when to go, how to get there, where to stay if the geography or logistics dictate a stay and, not least, you must decide how long will be needed there to assemble and/or create the content you have in mind. If the destination is far away this may add certain complications, but otherwise such fixing is usually a straightforward and logical process.
