The Skye’s the limit!
My writing career began about fifteen years ago when I first subscribed to Writing Magazine and responded to a submission call from A Cup Of Comfort For Cat Lovers, who were requesting true stories about our feline friends, writes subscriber Maria Dean. I entered a short story and had it published.
At this point, I was just starting a family and my writing took a turn as I decided to try my hand at writing a novel. It was a great release from midnight feeds and nappies and after three years, I found myself with a full-length novel. I approached a few publishers and one responded advising me to self publish. This seemed like the ‘in thing’ to do at the time, so, I went about self-publishing my book on Amazon.
I’ll be honest, it was a disaster from start to finish. I had no idea what I was doing and the book was littered with mistakes. But, I got such an amazing response from my friends and family who said they could not put the book down so I carried on writing.
Over the next few years, I wrote two more novels, one which I self published again. It sat on Amazon for a year or so and I decided that I wanted to find a publisher for my third novel as self publishing wasn’t for me. I approached Skye High Publishing with my third novel and they accepted it. I signed a publishing contract with them in November 2022. They are a small, Australian traditional publisher with an indie mindset. My novel On the Face of It, a contemporary romantic thriller, was published in May.
