Circles’ roundup: Head hopping
Rethink an established work to get your group’s creativity flowing, with an exercise from Julie Phillips
There are some times when it’s hard as writers to come up with new ideas. We can sit there, staring at the blank page with no inspiration or motivation in sight. It’s the same with writing groups. Sometimes the meeting just doesn’t seem to be going well or you’ve run out of ideas to get your group members’ writing juices flowing.
An interesting exercise to reignite your members’ creativity and help fill an hour or so of your meeting is to rethink novels or stories that have already been published. Reimagining your favourites or not-so favourites can be a good way of engaging your brain and encouraging you to think about your writing in a different way.
