‘In 2013 a small group working at Imperial College London set up a writing circle to encourage people from the College and the nearby educational and cultural institutions to write about their working lives,’ writes Nick Russell.
‘There are very few descriptions of work in canonical or popular fiction and the same gap exists in much factual media like journalism and memoir. Journalists report on the outcomes of work but usually leave out who did that work and how it was done, while most memoirs, although generally written by people with notable professional accomplishments, tend to focus on their personal lives.
