BEASTLY GOINGS ON
I write ‘Zoodunnit’ murder mysteries, writes subscriber
Phil Swan. That is right, ‘Zoodunnit’ murder mysteries. It is a new genre I have created and I am sure you will have never seen it before in this magazine.
As you might guess, my books are set in a zoo. All the suspects are zoo animals and, spoiler alert, so is the killer!!
The first book in my series, Waarter Catastrophe, was self-published. I have just completed the follow-up, Mercy, and I have a full outline ready for Book 3.
These humorous Zoodunnit murder mysteries are aimed at adults.
Set in a fictitious zoo, my books feature zoo animals as characters, detectives, and even the killer. The zoo, located on the grounds of a grand countryside hall, transforms into a luxurious setting after hours, reminiscent of the Hair Bear Bunch cartoon.
In Waarter Catastrophe a young teenage lion named Barnsley is murdered on the launch night of his venture at the zoo. His celebrity father, Oscar, demands an investigation. A moose named Mountie and a zebra named Charlton, originally conceived as spoof animal versions of Inspector Morse and Lewis, take on the challenge and successfully solve the case.
