SOA FIGHTS BACK AGAINST AI INVASION
US educational and academic publishing giant Wiley has negotiated deals with tec companies worth $44 million to allow its catalogue to be used for training AI Large Language Models (LMMs), with, controversially, no opt-out for its authors, writes Gary Dalkin.
A spokesperson for Wiley said, ‘Creating an opt-out or opt-in for a specific type of licensing on a case-by-case basis would erroneously support AI developers’ specious claim that licensing is not scalable.’ English-speaking humans are still trying to work out what this means.
