GETTING THE FEAR
Debut novelist Raghav Rao describes his experience of pre-publication terrors – and offers coping strategies for fellow writers in a similar position
‘I wish I could go back and tell myself to just enjoy it more.’
That’s what a seasoned writer told me when I shared that I was petrified for my debut. A blockage was preventing me from enjoying myself; my fears ran riot, particularly late at night, joining together into mega-fear. Married to a therapist, I dutifully wrote down my fears. Here are the first five:
Fear of bad reviews
Fear of no reviews
Fear my family and friends will think it’s lame
