SUNNY AND SHARE
Corrie’s Antony Cotton and rugby league star Keegan Hirst take in the joys of Florida, the Sunshine state — from relaxing on Miami Beach to jumping on almost every ride at Orlando’s theme parks
FLORIDA
TRAVEL SPECIAL 2018
One of them loves the beaches and bars, the other is a self-confessed Disney nut — although he’s never been to the US — and would rather be on a theme-park ride than sitting in the sun. Yet, someone at Attitude thought it would be a good idea to send these two to Florida together…
ANTONY
I have a theory, and it has stood me in good stead over the years: never sleep anywhere shittier than your own bedroom. It may have cost me many hours researching hotels and aeroplane seating plans, not to mention what Him Indoors calls “room-changing fun”, but ultimately when you’re spending your hard-earned dosh on two weeks away, you want to get the best bang for your buck.
Between my close friend Keegan and myself, we needed a decent holiday blowout before the beginning of training for Dancing on Ice and the start of the rugby Super League season. It was October, so most of Europe was out of the question, weather-wise.
Florida ticked all the boxes: weather, great nightlife, fantastic restaurants and the world’s best theme parks.
It was Keegan’s first time in the States so that added an extra layer of excitement. Thanks to British Airways Club World, we arrived Stateside relaxed and raring to go.
Our first stop was Miami and we stayed at The Nautilus, a Sixty Hotel on South Beach. It’s a big, glamorous property. We had a week there so there was plenty of time to get into the spirit of South Beach life.
