At the November monthly meeting of the Arran Natural History Society, Haley Douglas gave an outstanding insight into the life and migrations of the lesser black-backed gull from her findings having fitted satellite trackers to 15 gulls in the Clyde region.
Hayley talked the audience through initially her work as a ranger at Muirshiel Park and her interest in birds and bird ringing. It was when visiting a conference and listening to a talk on satellite tracking of ospreys that Haley became interested in this method and wondered if there was a bird she could apply this technique to for studying, at the park she worked at or A tag ring on the leg of a gull. area she lived in. The lesser black-backed gull was chosen and Hayley decided to see if see could get these birds some good press for once.
