The price you pay
With a litre of unleaded petrol last summer costing 77.4 pence, Arran still has virtually the most expensive fuel in Scotland. Only a rural Western Isles location and Dornoch are a fraction more expensive. Most remote rural locations are at least 10 pence a litre cheaper and in Edinburgh a litre costs 65.9 pence.
This is one of the findings of the most recent Rural Scotland Price Survey. Arran comes out of it as being one of the more expensive places to live. In general, the islands are more expensive and this is naturally put down to ferry costs. But some unlikely places are even more expensive.
