The 1974 serial Invasion of the Dinosaurs featured one of the strangest occupations of London in the series’ history. The story has long been criticised for the quality of its visual effects, but what does palaeontologist Dr Dave Hone make of its historical accuracy?
Palaeontologist Dr David Hone has a bone to pick with Invasion of the Dinosaurs (1974).

Invasion of the Dinosaurs is a curious beast. Despite its title (which was abbreviated to simply Invasion on Part One) the creatures brought forward in time are not an invading force. The dinosaurs encountered by the Doctor (Jon Pertwee) are briefly kidnapped by the sinister Operation Golden Age and used to force the evacuation of modern-day London.
