Leisure Painter  |  December 2023
Enjoy step-by-step demonstrations, exercises and inspiration that will keep you drawing and painting throughout the month. We begin this issue by presenting the award-winning entries to this year’s LP Open competition, which is a true celebration of amateur painting. Oil painter, Veronica Winters follows as she completes this year’s ever-popular series of painting projects from photographs with a cheerful depiction of a pot of geraniums on an Italian windowsill. Don’t forget to share your finished artwork for this project online; details can be found at the end of the demonstration. Seasonal landscapes also feature as Linda Birch uses a mixed-media approach to paint her village green, Denis John Naylor offer hints and tips for painting seasonal trees, and Rachel McNaughton brings those fire-like colours to life in her depiction of silver birches. There are step-by-step demonstrations in watercolour, soft pastels and oils, alongside an introduction to printing at home using wood blocks by Susan Poole.
