Health and fitness: HIIT workouts
Fitness guru Maxim Leach tells us why HIIT workouts are the way forward
Let’s talk about High Intensity Interval Training, or as most of us know it: HIIT.
WHAT IS A HIIT WORKOUT?
As the name suggests, a typical HIIT workout consists of consecutive high intensity exercises, each of which are carried out for short periods of time and are followed by a rest period that leaves you barely recovered enough to go again – essentially, it’s tough! For those who dislike the idea of exercise, or even those of us who do, this doesn’t sound like an appealing option. But bear with me, it comes with its benefits.
One of the biggest reasons for their recent popularity is how quick these workouts are. With an effective HIIT routine taking as little as 10 minutes and lasting no longer than 30, you can already start to see the appeal. They also require little to no equipment – just a space big enough to jump around in and the will to give it 100 per cent effort.
