Vintage Rock

Dec/Jan 2026 With the 70th anniversary of the recording of Carl Perkins' rock'n'roll classic Blue Suede Shoes upon us, Sun Records has unearthed an entire album of long-forgotten material to toast the occasion. Inside this special issue of Vintage Rock, we meet the producer of the King Of Rockabilly's new long-player Some Things Never Change to discuss the making of the record and why it's been hidden from view for so long. Our second big exclusive interview this edition is with esteemed Elvis biographer Peter Guralnick, who offers his unique perspective on Presley's infamous manager Colonel Tom Parker and their fascinating relationship, the subject of his latest book The Colonel And The King. There's an eye-opening chapter from Simon Matthews' new book Everything And The Kitchen Sink too, exploring the British film industry's response to the rock'n'roll revolution. Also inside, we remember the songwriting legend and Crickets' guitarist Sonny Curtis, take a deep dive into the UK's skiffle craze and examine the song that marked Little Miss Dynamite Brenda Lee's metamorphosis into the world of rock'n'roll. Other highlights include our feature on the life and career of cult rockabilly resurgence star Ray Campi and a celebration of the California show that brought some of the legends of surf guitar back together for one legendary night of reverb and twang. And with Halloween upon us… The Cramps frighteningly good debut album is the subject of this issue's classic album and our Top 20 picks out the finest songs relating to devils and angels!

Very entertaining

Ideal magazine for those who have an interest in the history of rock Reviewed 12 April 2022

Superb mag for real music fans

Thought the cover feature on The Beach Boys was really interesting. Went back to the roots of the band rather than just the usual features you see about Pet Sounds and Smile etc that are in other music mags. Brilliant magazine for real music lovers. Reviewed 30 November 2016

Superb features on a wide range of artists

Love this mag!! Features lots of my favourite artists from the 50s and 60s as well as up-to-date acts, too. Covers lots of artists from rock'n'roll, rockabilly, vintage soul and R&B. A great read. Reviewed 30 November 2016
