The French Jeremy Iglesias (KZ) and Adrien Renaudin (KZ2) take the honors at Salbris, winning the Finals of the first round of the FIA Karting European Championship for the gearbox classes in a weekend not without controversy.
KZ Jorrit Pex dominates heats, Hiltbrand the final, but Iglesias wins
Pex on Friday and Saturday and Hiltbrand on Sunday seemed ready to reiterate the Allblacks dominance in KZ, but the decline of the Dutchman and the Spaniard’s engine failure upset predictions. Surprisingly, it was Iglesias to win the first leg of the European Championship.

The Academy Trophy Final put on a great show, or spectacle, as expected. Seventeen laps of close racing for the top spots, thanks largely to the drivers running on equal footing. Same vehicle for everyone, guaranteeing entertainment for fans throughout the weekend.

OKJ Van T’Hoff ticks all boxes. Minì new leader
Super weekend for Dutchman Van T’Hoff, capable of surprisingly emerging on a friendly track. Victory built up over the weekend, from qualifying to direct matches, closing the final with a flourish. The race decisive, saw Victor Bernier as absolute frontrunner until the end. The Frenchman, however, author of a great performance, was penalized three seconds for not respecting starting procedures. Masterful performance by Gabriele Minì, third at the finish line, and championship leader.
DKM AFTER THE FIRST TWO ROUNDS
The first two rounds of the DKM unveil the title contenders in the four categories in Europe’s most popular national championship.

THE MONDIALPISTA LIVES
After listening to the story of the people who took part in the project we could not resist, and so we set off to experience first hand the thrill of racing on the San Pancrazio track, “the track where were you’d go to dream”, to quote Max Papis, one of the fathers of the project. The track is located about ten hours total flight time from Italy, (see box) but it was definitely worth it.

The city of Finlay in Ohio is known as Flag City USA; however those that have knowledge of the early days of American kart racing know about Findlay for a totally different reason. Findlay was the city where SAE karts were originally built beginning towards the end of 1957 in premises located at 305 Taylor Street.
