Hofco Karts

Hofco and Comet industries were founded by the Hof Brothers, David and Stephen but the company had its roots in a centuryold business owned by their father Harry Hof. Hofco came into being in 1949 and Comet Industries followed towards the end of the ifties decade. Hofco was the world’s oldest and original manufacturer of gasoline powered portable outdoor power equipment; they made chain saws, strimmers, grass cutting and lawn maintenance equipment, rotary tillers, log splitters and motorized post hole augers.

Hoffco equipment was used around the world including at the White House. Comet Industries manufactured power equipment components such as clutches, torque converters, band type brakes and the blade brake clutch for lawn mowers. Hoffco began patenting blade brake clutches for lawnmowers long before the 1981 federal mandate requiring the safety feature on all lawnmowers. Hoffco and Comet were quality manufacturers founded by the Hoff family and were based in Richmond, Indiana.

In 1959 Hoffco were attracted to the new fangled sport of karting. Initially they offered two karts for sale, the Hoffco Cyclone and the Hoffco Hurricane. At that time the company was listed as the second largest manufacturer of karts in the United States.
