AN INCREDIBLE DEBUT
I’m delighted to see Autocar giving Rivian some love (‘Move fast and make things’, 12 March).
My wife and I took delivery of our Rivian R1S some two years ago. Everything about this SUV is brilliantly conceived and executed: the build quality is superb, the passenger and load space is beyond impressive and the tech is intuitive and spot-on functional.
The R1S is also tremendously comfortable and boasts a very handsome and distinctive (thankfully non-generic) design. In my opinion, it’s one of the best-looking and best-engineered utility vehicles available, electric or otherwise.
Where we live, people are catching on: we see more and more R1Ss and R1Ts on the road every day. I expect the smaller and more affordable vehicles Rivian has in the pipeline will do much to boost public awareness of the brand and bring them deservedly to ever greater prominence.

WHAT CHINESE THREAT?
“The Denza product is 10 times better than the competition,” says BYD’s vice-president (First Drives, 16 April). Really? Ten times better than a Porsche Taycan?
I can’t see this giving Porsche sleepness nights. While the Chinese can compete at the cheaper end of the market, they are delusional if they think they can compete with established luxury brands, even if the product is of comparable quality, which I doubt.
