Aviation Specials  |  Dambusters 617 Squadron
617 Squadron, formed on March 21, 1943, was created for a specific purpose – to execute arguably the most daring and innovative air raid of World War II, against the dams in Germany’s Ruhr Valley.
On May 16/17, 1943, just 133 courageous airmen, flying 19 aircraft specially modified by industry, achieved enormous physical effect, bolstered morale at home and had lasting political influence on allies and foes alike.
Dambusters 617 Squadron details the illustrious history of 617 Squadron to the present day in the 80th anniversary year of a raid which required imagination, accurate intelligence, complex planning and consummate flying skill.
